Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai fans

For a while now I've been meaning to read Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai since everyone seems to love it and now I have the opportunity of owning the series. But everyone loving it doesn't necessarily mean I'll like it. Lord knows I absolutely hate some mangas that everyone loves (examples: Dog Style, Complex by Manda Ringo, Okane Ga Nai, Choco Strawberry Vanilla, etc.)
So I was wondering, is it good? What's so good about it? Why do you love it? I don't mind mild spoilers. Thank you in advance! (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Well, everybody has different opinions so its really upto you. I LOVE Saezuru because it has unique story, drama, great art and action too. The mangaka is Yoneda Kou and her mangas are just so beautiful especially Saezuru. Its heart wrenching and just beautiful. Be sure to read the prequel before reading Saezuru.
The star of the manga would be Yashiro, he is the uke. He the badass, queen uke. He had a troubled past and he loves sex and is a huge M. He loved someone one sidedly but then Doumeki comes and changes happen in his personal life.
Saezuru is a story where you just keep rooting for Yashiro to find happiness.

    Sorry i accidentally hit that
I love the manga but now that you've ask why ... idk
At first because i thought it will be better for them along the way but when they've grown up... it was better than before... they're part of yakuza so the story is sort of complex.

    it's a good cocktail
there is yakuza, action, a good plot, a loving (future) seme, and a f***king great uke who is badass, he doesn't care of what others think of him (being gay, loving sex and being a boss yakuza), and cynical
even the others caracters are interesting
    sorry for my laguage ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄

There are many famous mangas that i don't like too. I am not gonna name them though (I am not as brave as you :P ).

Well...there are lots of reasons I like Saezuru, one of them is because it's by Yoneda Kou. I have been her fan since i was a baby fujoshi. I practically worship her. Not blindly though. Her Saezuru tilts more towards the psychological genre which I love. It's suits my taste as it's very unique, twisted & tragic. I can't help but love, hate & pity the characters. I mean, an Ex-police Impotent Bodyguard seme working for a Nympho Yakuza uke? Who in there right mind would write a story about them? Only YK!! I also love how the mangaka gives room to the other side characters to develop which i don't see commonly in other mangas. I am huge sucker of background stories & flashbacks. So that's another reason to boot.

BUT, in the end it all depends on your taste & preference. The main reason i like Saezuru is because, it's sooooo f-cked up & twisted but the emotions portrayed are very raw & primitve. I somehow find that quite endearing. You on the other hand, might not. So Best of Luck deciding!

Thank you for your responses! I'm the type of person that loves to read other people's opinions. Most of the time it doesn't change my opinion, but I like knowing what other people think about a specific work, whether or not they love it and why. I like getting both sides regardless of what my personal opinion is. I asked because I usually do a quick reading of mangas I'm interested in and then slap a to read on it until I have the time to read it carefully. I distinctly remember doing that with Saezuru but I honestly can't remember a single detail about it, which was disconcerting because of the huge amount of love this manga has. So I wanted to know what people thought about it, and it's easier to just ask instead of sifting through the comments. (⌒▽⌒)

I love the storytelling craft of it. For me, it lifts the manga from just another yaoi to a work of literature. It is rich in symbolism (the birds, of course, impotence, Doumeki walking out of his shoe, and dear sweet baby Jesus, the contact lens case.) The characters are very far from their yaoi tropes. Yashiro stands alone in this genre, a psychological character study of a deeply damaged man surviving on his own terms. The cause of his damage is hard to read about and is handled in a very frank way but at the same time with a delicate sensitivity that cuts to the core.

So much is conveyed in the art, as well. It's one of those manga where you need to slow down and really "read" the art to fully appreciate the genius of it. Subtle looks and expressions on characters' faces, carefully focused frames.

The non-linear storyline (with many flashbacks) can be challenging but is in keeping with the fractured lives of the characters. And there are moments of sheer, gut-punching brilliance that I don't want to spoil but oh! The lemon squash drink in the movie theater! And the blowjob where Yashiro is--heh heh--blown away because the other guy (spoiler) swallowed. That little frame alone where the weight of that hits Yashiro is worth the price of admission.

I also dislike or am just not captivated by many of the more popular series, but this one is soooo different. It's definitely worth a try.

You shouldn't be afraid to share your opinion! Everyone has things they like and things they don't, and no one should berate you for having a differing opinion. As mentioned above I like reading other people's opinions, especially differing opinions. I don't usually respond but I like reading them, they get me out of the like-minded bubble. For example, even though my hate for Complex burns with the intensity of a million suns, when I read the comments of people who love it, I can see the manga's merits and why so many people like it. Likewise, when I read a negative comment about a manga I adore, I can see its flaws and the places where it's not so great. It might not change my opinion about it, but I feel like I gained a better understanding of the work.
I *think* the only mangas from Yoneda Kou I’ve read are Doushitemo Furetakunai and Soredemo, Yasashii Koi o Suru and I freaking loved both of them, so that’s a plus but not really a guarantee that I’ll like Saezuru. For example, I loathe Shitsuren Mania but I love After Morning Love, Before Daylight Love and The 4th Guard.
You’ve intrigued me. I like reading things that are different and complex and make feel for the characters. Thank you for your awesome response! ヾ(◍’౪`◍)ノ゙♡

Thank you for your kind comment. You are right. But the reason I don't talk about / try to avoid mentioning the mangas I don't like is that, the ones I don't like are crazy famous & almost 90% fujoshi's top mangas. Sometimes I dislike mangas without any particular reasons. Some things just don't suit my taste. So when someone asks me why, I have nothing logical to answer. I also found out that in the course of time my taste in mangas has changed quite a bit. I used to get creeped out at the site of Nakamura Asumiko's mangas. But when i tried her work again 2 years later i found them quite fascinating. On the other hand I used to ADORE everything about Junjou Romantica. Now it just gets on my nerves to the point that I have dropped it. Haru wo Daite Ita - I have lost count of how many times I have tried to read this manga over the last 4 years. But never once have I managed to stand it more than 3 chapters. Actually I don't like any of Nitta Youka's work. Miyamoto Kano is also on board with her. And i have always wondered why people like Choco Starwberry Vanilla so much. No offense to any their fans. However, nothing is set in stone. What I don't like today I might like tomorrow & vice versa. That's also 1 of the reason I don't talk about it. Last but not the least, not everyone is as open minded as you & me. Complex & Shitsuren Mania both are 1 of my all time fav. But i took no offense in your opinion. Just like that, any of the aforementioned mangas might be your fav or on top of your list & I know you'll understand where I am coming from. But there are many immature people who refuse to understand the very basic fact that everyone has their own taste & choices. I have even seen people openly saying that, "if you don't like such a great manga, then your taste is like shit". Can you believe that? Later it lead to an ugly bitchslap verbal war. So even though i wasn't a part of it, from then on i try to avoid situations like that.

Just like you, I like reading about people's different opinions too. I always check out the comment section before picking up a manga. Sometimes I even go for review hunting on baka updates or myanimelist. It's one of the reason that I picked up Nakamura Asumiko's work again & fell in love with them.

Thank you for your kind comment. You are right. But the reason I don't talk about / try to avoid mentioning the mangas I don't like is that, the ones I don't like are crazy famous & almost 90% fujoshi's top...

I totally understand where you’re coming from. At first I was afraid of criticizing anything for fear of the fangirls. A lot of people can’t really wrap their minds around the fact that not everyone likes the same things. It’s really regrettable that because of those kinds of people, others are reluctant to share their honest opinions. Now I don’t really care, *respectfully* agree to disagree but I’m curious to know why. Sometimes my reason for not liking a manga is just that I didn’t click with the characters. Objectively I can see that it’s not a bad manga, it’s just that I personally didn’t like. Though sometimes I can’t understand why people like a specific manga even after reading the comments (Okane Ga Nai fans I’m still trying).
As for your taste changing I think that’s perfectly fine. I’ve only been a BL fan for a year and a half and my taste has changed a lot. Things that I used to like, I can’t stand and vice versa. I like seeing how my opinion changed over time, even though most of the times I cringe when I read my earlier comments. At the beginning Junjou Romantica and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi were my top mangas, and now, while I still really, really like them, I’m annoyed that there’s no progress. I used to avoid Nakamura Asumiko’s managas because of the artwork (yes I was *that* kind of person) but now, while I don’t regard her as some kind of BL goddess like some people do, I still really like a lot of her mangas. Haru wo Daite Ita is one of my all-time favorite mangas but I don’t like any of Nitta Youka’s other mangas. In fact I’m still not 100% on board with Haru wo Daite Ita Alive (those damn kids are just ruining the whole thing for me, especially that annoying Yousuke). I avoid any and every one of Miyamoto Kano’s mangas like the plague, I’m sorry they’re just not something I enjoy.
I have no problems with someone liking something I hate. Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone liked the same thing. Sadly, some people are just so personally attached to a certain work that their knee-jerk reaction is to attack people who have different opinions. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌
Anyways, thank you for your reply! I really enjoy having discussions like these even though I don’t really participate in discussions on this website. Hopefully, moving forward that will change but we’ll see. Thanks again! ✲゚。.(✿╹◡╹)ノ☆.。₀:*゚✲゚*:₀。

I must say I really like how respectful you are of opinions and how you actually consider them properly to open your eyes to flaws or good points about a manga etc even if it doesn't change your opinion.
I also have a lot of popular manga on here that I think is very overrated. Sekaiichi and Junjou are kind of obvious. But also manga like Hidoku Shinaide, Koisuru Boukun, Katekyo!, Kuroneko series, Viewfinder, Ten count etc.. I don't necessarily hate them but I still think they are far from amazing.

As for the original question, Saezuru is great for many reasons already mentioned here, but I do not think you should read it yet. It updates semi-monthly I think, and the romance is slow so it's very frustrating to wait for new chapters. You should wait until it's complete! (whenever that'll be...)
