These bring the darkest part of my soul out. These are the stories I never read for a casual read. Instead, I shut myself in a dark room for days to binge-read them and meet my demons. Asano's works have messed me up the most and I originally made this list to gather his collections, but I was happy to extend it. These pieces are the only ones that still make me happy to be an otaku.
The first part left the most impression on me, where the nature of humans and war, oppression, and yearning for identity is depicted. This is an overall realistic story, with very real struggles. It has recently fallen for romance cliches, but I still have faith in the story.
