FL is the empress who had her husband taken from her by the "villainess" of the story. Villainess later becomes the concubine and tries to sabotage FL relationship with the emperor. Emperor is not a rational man but the FL has a supporting ML.
FL wants revenge over her sister for being involved with her death. By doing this she uses the magic hourglass and she becomes more duchess like than her previous self to seduce the sister's love interest.
FL is not royal blood and is a maid's bastard daughter. She gets into an arranged marriage to be useful to the family and gets stabbed by an assassin. Her husband then kills her and says he will meet her soon. She travels back into the past.
