unrequited gay love

mc falls in love with a straight guy and instead of the typical yaoi cliche the guy doesn't fall in love back, and they just remain as friends 

(dont get me wrong this trope is heartbreaking and i'm always yearning for them to end up together, but i appreciate the realism in depicting such relationships)

i will say some of these imply the love interest mignt like the mc back or it mighr be vague and hopeful for the future but they never canonically do
