tldr: MCML was the first S tier hunter ever. He dies in a dungeon with 44 other hunters but he somehow survives and comes back to life 8 years later. Every association thought he died so he just went with it cause it was a hassle to be a hunter again and live that life. Now he works at a hangover soup restaurant.
