She wasn't evil, she was worst - she just didn't care and did as told, and she was told that she can only have a future if her evil brother becomes king. So she makes him king, and he kills her in return, to tie up loose ends. But she returns at age 17 or something, and this te she will make the only righteous man she ever met into the next king. Her price? He'll protect her until then, and let her go after.
I have finally decided to return to the begining to check if astor was originally female or if he was a he and the author just gradually made that more confusing before changing him to a her.... and I'm still confused... but now I appreciate that confusing little plot even more
