misunderstanding the mc to be better than they are

doesn’t matter if mc is strong or weak, but people misunderstand/overthink their actions and words to the point they think they’re always 3 steps ahead, while mc is blissfully unaware (and typically nervous). i also included “sickly” mcs who aren’t actually sick in here.
will not be rating with numbers but will give general summary and opinion. THERE MAY BE SPOILERS. i tried to move the better ones at the front but it’s not in a particular order!
- edit: still good except it's lolicon now wtf so i stopped reading it lol
mc is a normal guy who loves books a little too much, so he essentially sells his soul to be able to own every book n knowledge in the world. he doesn’t know that his books aren’t “normal” to other people (he got isekai’d to a different world but is seemingly unaware of this). everybody thinks he’s a god/inhuman/omniscient and it’s hilarious to see them misunderstand him
mc is super cute and headstrong and charmingly dense. she is really smart but everyone misunderstands her words and actions a lot because she’s so confident. she is, of course, left unaware. also tbh the men are nice but the dad is so much better. love a strong fl who knows what she wants!
You may feel your favorite manga should be gathered together into distinct categories for your own reference and, now, you can do this with a LIST. After you've created your list or lists, you can proudly recommend them to other manga fans to showcase and share your taste in manga.
Shachiku Kensei, Haishinsha ni naru - Black Guild Kaishain, Ukkari Kaishayou Kaisen de S-kyuu Monster wo Aite ni Musou suru Tokoro wo Zenkoku Haishin shite shimau
But he is actually better than people think he is. I think this manga fits into ur list well because despite actually being strong, he's a bit oblivious to the fact that regular people can't do what he can.(๑•ㅂ•)و✧ Love ur list btw. Keep em coming! I love this genre.
yay! i’m glad you’re enjoying it. it’s so hard finding this sort of trope so lmk if you have any suggestions as well ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~ Sinrai :)
Technically Overlord, it’s really famous but it does fall into this trope. He’s OP but his actual personality is weak-minded and human-like. There all these eleborate plans but he doesn’t really understand them but always manages to make everything work as if he planned them from the start.

hahahaha overlord is already on here, somewhere around page 3 or something like that. still, thanks for the suggestion though!

Then you really do have everything I know! Σ( ̄□ ̄||) really good job on cataloging of them, thanks to you people like me can enjoy their misunderstandings haha ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
I dunno if this is on here but i think "I Was Mistaken As a Monstrous Genius" also fits pretty well. It's a system kinda thing and what he's thinking is the complete opposite of how he looks/how people see him (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
I think "Binbou Reijou no Kanchigai Seijo Den" would fit this list, everyone thinks the fl is a saint but most of her actions are out of self-interest (e.g. she gives the villagers healing medicine bc if they stay healthy, they can continue paying taxes)
you don’t have weak hero on here, right? i think gray is a good contender! he’s great at winning fights because he’s really crafty/intelligent, but physically super weak and delicate-looking so people (especially in the beginning, when he hadn’t built up a reputation yet) would doubt his capabilities and keep challenging him.
he 100% warrants his reputation of being ruthless and scary, but i really love the sheer disparity between that intimidating reputation vs. how small and effeminate he is <3

It doesn’t have many chapters yet, but The Fake Master Who Accidentally Became the Strongest seems to fit this trope very well
thank you for the new rec!!!!!!! i’ve been waiting for more to come out but this trope is so rare. i’ll read it and update the list.
Hey nice list. Can I recommend Transfer Student Storm Bringer to the list though? I liked it a lot :))
thanks! its already on the list haha on the first page or something
(≧∀≦) must've missed it my bad
This is literally my favorite trope! I’m so happy someone made a list and it’s so long as well
Thank you so much ヾ(☆▽☆)

Idk if it counts but I like "handa-kun" everyone thinks he is amazing and he thinks everyone hates him
oh this is a classic. i read and watched it a while ago but forgot to add since it was before this list was made. i’ll add it, thanks!
Dunno if you already read but "Clever Cleaning life of a returned genius hunter" also follows this trope (●'◡'●)ノ
FOR REAL? I WILL READ IT RN
Add this one to the list please!
Just Because My Apprentice Is the Strongest, Doesn’t Mean I’m Strong Too!
The title basically explains it ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
ooh, let me check it out! thanks for the recommendation ヾ(☆▽☆)
