We tend to be emotionally driven by "loss," or risks. The stronger our fear, the more we attach/ dedicate significant part of ourselves to those we cherish. Cuz we cant bear the thought of losing them, while protecting ourselves we try to live ignorant of the fact that things r bound to change, and nothing can last forever.
I'd like to think that with every chapter, [the jar] having one more cookie signifies Beatrice's affected by her emotional connection with Amy.
