i totally thought i would like this one, to be honest
I really enjoy stories with ambivalent / morally neutral characters and I love a good psychological horror
but for some reason this just absolutely didn't click with me and it made me feel kind of depressed and blegh more than anything else
i don't think its objectively bad but it was not my thing AT ALL
also UGH THE CANE SCENE :((( IT WAS SO SAD
this is a catfish story
it starts off super strong, i was so excited for it! and then.. the ML is an asshole. and you're like okay, he's going to get redeemed, that's such a fun plotline
and then he CONTINUES TO BE AN ASSHOLE FOR NO REASON (plot or in response to someone else)
it actually became super unpleasant to read because he's just a toxic asshole who the FL is forced to get along with or SHE'LL BE KILLED?? and we're supposed to think this is romantic???????

much like her outer appearance, her inner personality radically changes, losing any appeal that the story once had along with it

i was also super disappointed with story choices. she was a perfect candidate to learn special effects makeup and transform her passion for horror into something makeup related but noooo
i just want to make it very clear I do not hate this for its premise. I knew what I was committing to. I'll even ignore the super questionable ethics about the whole "barbarian" thing.
the MC is just awful, the pacing is bad, the art is bad.. this is so halfhearted. the main healer accuses her of having smallpox just for the ML to be like she doesn't have the symptoms UM? GIRL THAT'S UR MAIN HEALER? HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR HEALTH?!?
