I'm wondering the same thing! I wonder if it has to do with the politics of the corporation. Usually, the CEO has a lot of power, but not all of it, so his father probably needs the support of the other shareholders in the corporation to pass his position on to Woojin. That's all I can think of. I don't know anything about that stuff, though!

Illegitimate heir (the mistress's son) and maybe he can lose his power but it doesn't matter because as long as he loves Taemin it's the most important thing.

and the illegimate heir thing pretty much sums up why this is such a big deal like the ceo/chairman can have as many mistresses as he wants, but only the son of the ceo/chairman and the chairwoman (his legal wife) can inherate which might turn into a big deal, actually, because publicity is a huge deal in korea. if the news gets out that woojin isn't the actual son and that the ceo/chairman had a legit mistress (he can have one but he can't publically confirm/show it) then the company can take a huge hit.

My theory is that they actually did have a child but the child got sick to the point that it died and they didn't want the public to know, so they wrote it off as a bedridden child until they found one... um to their liking. But what the anon said is the most probable situation and maybe Siwoon really was a bastard child.

I'm super surprised that you thought that, because I did too! How crazy would it be if we're right?! I don't think Woojin was chosen randomly. I think he had a half brother who died, named Siwoon. And he was chosen to fill in for Siwoon. He didn't change his name. He's pretending to be someone else. I noticed that his family name, Min, didn't change, so this theory fits. If he and his half brother shared a father but not a mother, then their last names would both have been Min, right? Man, whether we are right or not though, this story is getting twisted...
Or!!! What if the half brother didn't even die? What if it's kind of like "Gattaca," where Woojin took his half-brothers place for some reason other than his having died?

I read the synopsis of Gattaca and it can be possible. We still haven't been told why Woojin's whole house was eradicated and I have always been questioning why his surname stayed the same. Why go through so much trouble of lying and saying he was sick. They could have easily had another child but instead decided Woojin should be the heir, which can mean that he was made from an affair from the father as we're all thinking, so something is definitely up with this whole child business. And then there's that statement Woojin made to Taemin in their flashbacks at the very end. I don't remember what it was but Taemin said 'he changed' and the very next day Woojin disappeared.
Sorry, I'm bad at explaining things and it probably looks like i went off topic from what you replied with but my thoughts basically led me to this:
a) He's being used as a cover up for a dead child.
b) Said child is not in very good condition to be appearing in public, so Woojin is going in his stead.
c) The mother is infertile and cannot have children (i mean, even she's going along with it?)
Johoon is NOT a prince. And what would he have to take revenge for. This sounds like a spoiler so should have been given a spoiler warning.
If he's being used as a coverup and the actual Siwoon is lying in a hospital somewhere this could explain why he was so ready to accept Taemin was living in Siwon's body. Because he himself was standing in for another person pretty much lying on their death's bed. ALSO it would explain why his father didn't come for him until that point in his life.
I mean some of us have not read between chapters 36 and 43. Okay?

I agree that there has to be a major reason for those lies. The fact that his father and stepmother pretended that his stepmother was his biological mother, he was sick in bed for years, and that his name is Siwoon is such a huge freaking bomb, it's driving me crazy trying to process it. I think the possibility of him replacing someone else is so high because Woojin's father and stepmother couldn't just say "Oh, by the way, we have this twelve year old son." Why would they have never mentioned him before? The fact is, they probably had. But no one had met him because he was too sickly. Wow, this has taken a turn for the fucked up.
This would also explain why Woojin never got to contact or see Taemin. If his father and stepmother were using him for this elaborate plot, there is no way in hell they'd allow him to associate with anyone from his former life.
Remember Woojin's mother said clearly that they were abandoned and he couldn't be loved by anyone. Taemin saved him. I think his mother had some mental issue and commit suicid letting Woojin alone and his real father came to take him back. His step mother seems kind and she might get along with him.
